A Potted History

Hello, Blogosphere! As you may have figured out by now, I am not so good at keeping my blog up-to-date.  So with that in mind, let me show you a few pictures of a tour my friend Catherine and I took way back in May of "Hidden Gardens of the Royal Mile".  They are operated by Green Yonder Tours and I highly recommend this particular one and imagine that the others would be enjoyable as well!  As we wended our way down Edinburgh's most historic street, we were regaled with tidbits of fascinating history of the spaces and gardens we were strolling through - a potted history, if you will.  :)

The circle garden.

Gardens at some Council Housing Buildings.

A wee potted garden that incorporates one of the winches from when this building was a printing house.

Old city wall.

Our tour stopped at this charming old fountain.

Learning about the kindergardens that used to take place in this courtyard.

A whole lot of greenery for not a lot of soil! And one of the creepers has been pruned in the shape of a heart.

A trip down the garden path.

Catherine contemplates the herb garden.  It smelled divine!

Dunbar Close is laid out much as a 16th century garden would have been.

Veteran's garden overlooking Calton Hill.

Catherine even had flowers on her top for the occasion!

A recreated historic inn and its potted garden.

Parliament and the dramatic backdrop of Arthur's Seat.
Catherine and I were also lucky enough to do this tour on one of the very few dazzlingly sunny days we had this summer.  I even wore shorts! *gasp!*
